Encrypted cloud storage for Mac · In development

We see nothing.

Encrypted cloud storage for your Mac. A voucher creates your account, with no name or email. Big files stay in the cloud and show up in Finder, so your Mac gets its space back.

Concept preview · Illustrative files and example numbers, not a measurement. Some apps and macOS can keep their own copies.

Only you can read your files.

Your keys. voidFS is designed to encrypt files on your Mac with keys only you hold, so neither voidFS nor the storage provider can read them. File sizes, access times and service metadata stay visible.

Your account. No name or email. A voucher creates your account, and a 12-word recovery phrase gets you back in. Never share it. If you lose it and every trusted Mac, nobody can restore access, not even us.

Your Mac. The app runs in the macOS App Sandbox, so macOS only lets it reach your voidFS files and the files you choose.

Three steps. Nothing new to learn.

  1. Move

Drag a folder into voidFS, like any other folder.

  2. Encrypt

voidFS is designed to encrypt contents, filenames and folders on your Mac before upload.

  3. Open

Double-click. It’s designed to open in your usual app.

Does opening a file use space on my Mac?

voidFS is designed to keep no downloaded copy of opened files. Files stay in the cloud and show up in Finder. Some apps and macOS may keep their own copies, and changes that haven’t uploaded yet use some space until they do.

Can I use my files offline?

Opening files needs an internet connection. Changes you make offline are kept and upload when you’re back. Keeping chosen files available offline is planned.

Are my files encrypted?

That’s the goal. voidFS is designed to encrypt file contents, filenames and folder structure on your Mac before upload, with keys only you hold, so neither voidFS nor the storage provider can read them. Encryption is still in development, and a security review comes before release.

What can voidFS still see?

Not what’s in your files. voidFS is designed to encrypt file contents, filenames and folder structure on your Mac before upload. That’s what “We see nothing.” means. The service still sees how much you store, file sizes, when files are uploaded or opened, and the IP address you connect from. Once paid plans exist, it also sees what your payment method shares. How voidFS protects your files

Do I need to give my name or email?

No. A voucher creates your voidFS account, so you never give a name, email or ID. Instead you get a private recovery phrase of twelve words. Keep it safe, because if you lose both the phrase and every trusted Mac, nobody can restore access, not even us.

Will I ever have to give my name?

Not for a voidFS account. Paying with Bitcoin over Lightning is planned and needs no name or email. Other payment methods may ask for details, which are never used to sign in.

What can the Mac app access?

Only what it needs. The voidFS app, its Finder extension and its file system run in the macOS App Sandbox, so macOS only lets them reach your voidFS files and the files you choose. The rest of your Mac stays out of reach.

Is voidFS free?

Every account starts with a voucher that sets its storage and how long it lasts. Free vouchers are shared through @voidFS_app on X. Paid vouchers are planned; prices aren’t set yet.

Can I get back deleted files or older versions?

Not yet. voidFS keeps only the current version of each file, and deleting is permanent. Keep your own backup of anything important.

Does voidFS collect usage data?

voidFS sends pseudonymous usage data, such as setup progress and whether file operations succeed, plus basic app and device info (app and macOS version, language, Mac model), to help us improve it. It’s on by default and never includes file contents, filenames, folder names or paths. You can turn it off anytime with the “Share usage data” checkbox under Usage data in Settings.

When can I try it?

The Mac app comes first, and every voidFS account starts with a voucher. Follow @voidFS_app on X to get a free one.

How does voidFS compare with Dropbox, iCloud Drive, Google Drive and OneDrive?

My Mac storage is full. What are my options?

Check what takes the space first, then weigh deleting, an external drive and cloud storage. Read the Mac storage guide.
